KARACHI, Jan 26: In view of Muharram processions, the DIG Traffic has announced alternate routes and traffic arrangements for the next three days. On 8th Muharram (tomorrow), a Shia main Muharram procession will start from Nishtar Park at 11am via the following routes and it will terminate at Hussainian Iranian Imambargah; Nishtar Park, Sir Shah Nawaz Bhutto Road, Father Jaminis Road, Mehfil-i-Shah-i-Khurasan, M.A. Jinnah Road, Mansfield Street, Preedy Street, again M.A. Jinnah Road, Thatai Compound, Adamjee Budha Bhoy Road, Baba-i-Urdu Road, Nishtar Road, Barah Imam, Altaf Hussain Road (Old Napier Road), M.A. Jinnah Road, Boulton Market, Bombay Bazaar, Nawab Mahabat Khanjee Road to Hussainian Iranian Imambargah.
On 9th Muharram, a Shia procession will be taken out from Markazi Imambargah Liaquatabad at 9am. This procession will first go to Martin Road, Imambargah and thereafter it will come to Nishtar Park where Majalis will be held. At about 12 noon, the procession will be taken out from Nishtar Park for Iranian Hussainian Imambargah, Kharadar via the following route; Nishtar Park, Sir Shah Nawaz Bhutto Road, Father Jaminis Road, Mehfil-i-Shah-i-Khurasan, M.A. Jinnah Road, Mansfield Street, Preedy Street, again M.A. Jinnah Road, Boulton Market, Bombay Bazaar, Kharadar, Nawab Mahabat Khanjee Road to Hussainian Iranian Imambargah.
On 10th Muharram, Majlis will be held from 7.30am to 9am at Nishtar Park following which a procession will start and proceed from Nishtar Park to Hussainian Iranian Imambargah via Sir Shah Nawaz Bhutto Road, Father Jaminis Road, Mehfil-i-Shah-i-Khurasan, M.A. Jinnah Road, Mansfield Street, Preedy Street, again M.A. Jinnah Road, Boulton Market, Bombay Bazaar, Kharadar, Nawab Mahabat Khanjee Road.
As soon as the procession starts, all vehicular traffic coming from city will be diverted on to Soldier Bazaar from the junction of M.A. Jinnah Road/Dr Dawood Pota Road.
All traffic on Soldier Bazaar Road from its junction with Dr Dawood Pota Road up to its junction with Khan Bahadur Naqi Muhammad Khan Road shall follow one way.
All buses, minibuses and trucks coming from Nazimabad will be diverted to Nishtar Road towards Zoological Garden.Al buses, minibuses and trucks coming from Liaquatabad will be diverted to Martin Road towards jail side. These vehicles shall, however, be permitted to proceed up to jail and shall then proceed via Jamshed Road, Dada Bhoy Noorji Road, Kashmir Road, Shahrah-i-Quaideen, Sharea Faisal up to Gora Qabristan and then via Mubarak Shaheed Road, Iqbal Shaheed Road, Lucky Star, Sarwar Shaheed Road, Dr Dawood Pota Road, Preedy Street to their normal routes.
When the head of the procession reaches the junction of M.A. Jinnah Road/Mansfield Street, these vehicles shall proceed straight for 602 EME workshop, Mubarak Shaheed Road, Iqbal Shaheed Road, Lucky Star, Sarwar Shaheed Road, Fatima Jinnah Road, Maulana Din Muhammad Wafai Road (Old Stretchen Road), Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road, M.A. Jinnah Road. As the situation permits, these vehicles shall be diverted towards I.I. Chundrigar Road from the junction of Court Road and M.R. Kiyani Road.
Similarly, all buses, minibuses approaching city from Stadium Road side shall proceed via New M.A. Jinnah Road. These vehicles shall be diverted at Dada Bhoy Noorji Road towards Kashmir Road from its junction with New MA Jinnah Road/Link Road behind Mazar-i-Quaid.All trucks, buses, minibuses on the Super Highway approaching the city shall be diverted from Al-Azam Square towards Chowrangi No. 2 Nazimabad and shall proceed along Estate Avenue Road, Sher Shah to Mauripur Road. For return journey, these vehicles shall adopt the same route.
All buses, minibuses and trucks approaching from the National Highway side shall proceed via Rashid Minhas Road, Stadium Road, Sir Shah Suleman Road, Hassan Square, Liaquatabad No 10, Nazimabad Chowrangi No 2, Habib Bank, Manghopir Road, Estate Avenue Road, Sher Shah, Mauripur Road, For return journey, these vehicles shall also adopt the same route.
All car traffic shall not be permitted to proceed towards the route of the procession from Guru Mandir roundabout. These vehicles shall be diverted to Bahadur Yar Jang Road and again on to Khan Bahadur Naqi Road. Under no circumstances, these vehicles shall be permitted to proceed along Soldier Bazaar Road from the junction of Khan Bahadur Naqi Road and Bahadur Yar Jang Road.
All cars coming from Mazar-i-Quaid side along M.A. Jinnah Road will be diverted to Bahadur Yar Jang Road. No vehicular traffic shall be permitted to proceed towards Purani Numaish, under any circumstances.
All vehicular traffic approaching Purani Numaish via Shahrah-i-Quaideen (except those arriving to join the procession having stickers pasted on their wind screens issued from the traffic department) shall not be allowed to proceed from the roundabout of Shahrah-i-Quaideen and link road behind the mausoleum. No bus, minibus and truck will be allowed to proceed beyond this roundabout towards Purani Numaish.
All traffic going towards Saddar and other colonies will not be allowed to proceed towards Empress Market from the junction of (1) Preedy Strert/ Sarmad Road, (2) Preedy Strert/ M.A. Jinnah Road, (3) Shahrah-i-Liaquat/Court Road and (4) Shahrah-i-Liaquat/Muhammad Bin Qasim Road when the head of the procession reaches near the crossing of M.A. Jinnah Road/ Mansfield Street.
Similarly, all traffic proceeding towards Saddar via M.A. Jinnah Road side shall not be permitted to proceed from its junction with Press Street and Sir Agha Khan Road.
All traffic coming from Keamari side will be terminated at Ghass Bunder Railway Quarters and as soon as the ehad of the procession (Sunni procession) reaches at the hunction of MA Jinnah Road/Donnelly Road, these vehicles shall ply in shuttle service between Keamari to Railway Quarters, Ghass Bunder and MA Jinnah Road. All buses coming from West Wharf side and Mauripur Road side will terminate at the junction of Aga Khan Road/Eduljee Dinshaw Road. Traffic from West Wharf and Mauripur sides will however be permitted to proceed via Aga Khan Road/ G. Allan Road till the situation so permits.
All traffic coming and bound from Keamari and Mauripur Road from the side of M.T. Khan Road will travel via Jinnah Bridge till the time head of the procession reaches at the junction of M.A. Jinnah Road/ Donnelly Road and thereafter, all the traffic will be suspended from the junction of M.T. Khan Road/ Jinnah Bridge.—PPI
